HOUSTON (June 25, 2014) – Friends, family and fireworks will be part of many celebrations this Fourth of July. Silver Eagle Distributors, the Houston-area’s local Anheuser-Busch distributor, reminds adults 21 and older to add a designated driver or designated “skipper” to their Independence Day plans for a fun, responsible holiday.
“As millions of adults prepare to celebrate our nation’s independence, we remind them to designate a driver or skipper to help keep everyone safe,” says John Nau, president and CEO of Silver Eagle Distributors. “Whether you’re on the roadways, waterways, or at a backyard barbeque, making responsible choices is the best way to create a memorable and safe celebration for family and friends.”
Thanks in part to strong law enforcement and community-based alcohol awareness and education programs, drunk driving is down 51% nationwide with more than 140 million American adults having been or used a designated driver.
Locally, Silver Eagle Distributors offers the Alert Cab program to provide free cab rides home for bar and restaurant patrons who may have had too much to drink. We also provide our retailers with Driver’s License guides and We I.D. materials to assist in identifying and preventing those who are underage from purchasing and consuming alcohol.
Silver Eagle Distributors and Anheuser-Busch offer the following safe celebration tips that everyone can incorporate into their holiday gatherings:
- Be a Responsible Host. Offer non-alcohol beverages for guests who do not drink alcohol and for those who are designated drivers and skippers. Always offer food when serving alcohol beverages, and stop serving alcohol beverages at least one hour before the party ends. Finally, make sure your guests have a safe ride home.
- Drive Safely. Make sure everyone in the vehicle wears a seat belt and everyone in the boat wears a life jacket. Always be alert and in control of your vehicle. Resist the urge to speed
by making sure there is plenty of time to reach your destination. - Be Responsible on the Water. Before hitting the water, be sure to check the weatheryou’re your equipment. When on the water, operate at a safe speed, stay clear of shallow or high-traffic areas and ensure everyone in the boat wears a life jacket.
