Silver Eagle Distributors Dedicates Sept. 20 to Encouraging Residents of Houston to Always Use a Designated Driver

HOUSTON (Sept. 16, 2013) – On Friday, September 20, 2013, employees of Silver Eagle Distributors, the local Budweiser distributor, will be visiting consumers and local retail accounts – bars, restaurants, convenience stores – with an important message: If you choose to drink, plan ahead and use a designated driver so you can enjoy the great times.

More than 2,000 Anheuser-Busch employees across the United States are joining local wholesalers to encourage the use of designated drivers on Global Be(er) Responsible Day, a day observed by Anheuser-Busch InBev employees across the globe and dedicated to the promotion of responsible drinking.

“We’ve supported the use of designated drivers for many years,” said John L. Nau, president and CEO, Silver Eagle Distributors. “While our efforts to encourage responsible drinking take place all year long here in Houston, one day each year we participate in this special, global effort with Anheuser-Busch and its sister companies around the world to raise awareness for alcohol responsibility.”

The city of Houston is also supporting Anheuser-Busch and Silver Eagle’s alcohol responsibility efforts. This week Houston Mayor Annise Parker and the Houston City Council will pass a proclamation making September 20th Be(er) Responsible Day in the city of Houston. And on Friday the 20th, employees from Anheuser-Busch’s Houston brewery will join employees of Silver Eagle Distributors as they visit consumers and retailers to talk about alcohol responsibility and the importance of designating a driver.

On this day, Silver Eagle will also continue to implement the responsibility programs it has in place all year round. These efforts include Alert Cab, a program in conjunction with the Houston Restaurant Association, helps provide free and discounted rides home for bar and restaurant patrons who have had too much to drink. Additionally, Driver’s License guides and We I.D. age calendars will be used on this day, as they are throughout the year, to assist in identifying and preventing those who are underage from purchasing and consuming alcohol.

Silver Eagle Distributors encourages adults to take a pledge to be or use a designated driver at NationOfResponsibleDrinkers.com.

“We encourage you to pledge at Nation of Responsible Drinkers and sign up to drink responsibly and designate a driver,” said Nau. “Show your support for the important role designated drivers play in enjoying the great times.”
